Born and raised in San Diego, California, Annie Dover graduated from San Diego State University with a BA in Psychology and Music. She earned an MA in Counseling through the Department of Education. She also holds an AA in Art. She has studied painting with Vladimir Medenica and Willie McGrath, but she is an independent and largely self-taught artist who has been active in the region for over 35 years. She has adopted a multitude of approaches to her work; from personal symbolism to psychological portraiture to plein-air painting. Her oil paintings are of real-life experience tinged with romantic realism. Annie has been the recipient of many awards: 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place at the Del Mar Fair in realistic oil painting; Juror’s Choice several times at the San Diego Art Institute; the Grumbacher Award; and several Honorable Mentions. She has had many solo shows.
Annie’s art has appeared in numerous magazines, including Southwest Art, American Art Collector, and International Artist. She is currently represented by the Santa Ysabel Gallery in California and the Sugarman Peterson Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She is a signature member of OPA.
