Living in the Taos NM area since 1994 Painter J. Chris Morel lives and paints in the mountains outside of Taos. Inspired by the legacy of great painters of the area, past and present, Morel has found endless inspiration and subject matter close to home.
June of 2016 Morel’s work was featured in a two man show with sculptor Dan Ostermiller, Nedra Matteucci Gallery in Santa Fe NM.
2016 Morel’s paintings are exclusively featured throughout the 2016 “New Mexico Magazines” Annual Artist Calendar published for the NM Department of Tourism.

2008 Morel was awarded the “Blue Ribbon in Oil Painting at the annual “George Phippen Museum Western Art Exhibit” in Prescott, AZ.

Morel’s work has been featured in several one-man gallery exhibits.
He participates in exhibitions at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City OK, Albuquerque Museum of Art, Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos NM, Maynard Dixon Country Invitational in Mt. Carmel UT and the Gilcrease Museum’s American Art in Miniature” in Tulsa, OK.
Morel has been the recipient of awards at national juried competitions such as the annual “Art for the Parks” and “Plein Air Tucson” competitions.
