Best known for figurative and portrait painting, Rein paints landscapes and animals as well. She graduated with honors in fine art from Emmanuel College in Boston, then attended Massachusetts College of Art. Having spent many hours studying the masters at the Boston Museum of Art, her formal education was followed by traveling to the major European museums. Her early work was expressed thru the classical technique of underpainting and showed great attention to mastery of representation. She began her career as a portrait artist and was represented by Portraits, Inc, NY. Rein has expanded both her subject matter and techniques, now preferring a more painterly expression. Considering herself a lifelong student, she continuously studies the art of our present and past greats. She has received numerous awards, including first place at the Boston City Hall Juried Show, first place at the centennial juried exhibition at the Guild of Boston Artists and American Impressionist Society Honorable Mention. Her work has been shown in National Publications, including American Art Collector, Southwest Art, and Fine Art Connoisseur. National shows include Oil Painters of America and the American Impressionist Society.
“I have a deep reverence for all creation and its inner spirituality and feel compelled to express and share the joy I receive in its observance. In the words of Monet, creativity is all about “love, love, love”. I think the Beatles said something like that too! But in the end, painting is just plain fun.” Gail Rein
