Born and raised in Hong Kong, Margaret holds a B.A. from Wellesley College and an M.F.A. in Dance from the University of Utah. She enjoyed a fulfilling and successful career in dance until she moved with her husband to Japan and then California. In San Francisco she began studying Fine Arts painting in the Academy of Art University’s graduate program. “My background in dance and the experience of having lived in so many different cultures has been vital in shaping my artistic sensibilities”, she notes.
Margaret is the winner of several awards in national and international art competitions, including OPA regional and national shows and in The Artist’s Magazine, and regularly exhibits her work in galleries in the Bay Area. Additionally, her paintings have been published in art books. She paints in oils predominantly and is accomplished in all the genres – portrait/figure, landscape and still life. At the same time, she believes that working from time to time in other media – pastel, pen and ink and watercolor – helps to keep her mind sharp, her appreciation of the expressive nuances of each keen, and her approach fresh and immediate.
Margaret is a member of Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, and the Portrait Society of America, where she was honored to serve a term of three years as their Co-Ambassador for the state of California. She is sought after for commissioned work in which her sensitive attention to clients’ needs has earned her a solid reputation.
Her website is www.mtwfineart.com. Visitors are always welcome to her studio located in Nob Hill, San Francisco.
