Tony D’Amico

Creativity has always been a driving force in my life. Initially, this passion led me to a career in the corporate world of advertising and marketing. Although fulfilling financially, the work was stifling as I was producing visual communications for the clients who had hired me versus having the opportunity to express my own personal creative message. An opportunity to sell my company launched my career as a professional artist and I haven’t looked back.My artwork captures an interpretation of everyday moments in time that are often overlooked… A fleeting sliver of sunlight as it streaks across a landscape; the flickering glow of candlelight in a darkened interior; a powerful wave as it is about to turn and crash on the rocks. My concepts are rooted in plein air painting and it is an essential part of my process. Painting on location provides a total sensory experience that I deposit in my visual memory to recall when painting a studio piece. The resulting painting is my idealized interpretation of the scene. The emphasis is not always on accurately recording every detail, yet rather to capture something more elusive and emotive… an invitation for the viewer to share in that emotion and become part of the scene.PROFILEBeginning employment as a commercial artist/illustrator, Tony later founded his own promotional marketing agency, Creative Alliance based in Southport CT. The client roster included, PepsiCo, AT&T, Tiffany & Company, ebay and the Guinness Importing Company. Evolving into one of the top promotion and event marketing agencies in the US, he later sold the company to the Publicis Group, an international advertising and media services conglomerate. Channeling his creativity into a full time career as a fine artist, Tony has studied with a number of outstanding artists such as Donald Demers, Matt Smith, and Ray Roberts. His artwork has been recognized over the years with many national awards. Tony is a signature member of both the American Impressionist Society and the National Oil Painters & Acrylics Society, a member of the Salmagundi Club, Oil Painters of America and elected member of The Plein Air Painters of the Southeast.SELECTED SHOWS & AWARDSAmerican Impressionist Society Annual National Juried ExhibitionsArt Renewal Center Salon (ARC)Oil Painters of America Annual National ExhibitionOil Painters of America Eastern Regional ExhibitionsOil Painters of America National Salon ExhibitionsNational Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society Best of America Juried ExhibitionsInternational Marine Art Exhibitions Mystic Maritime GalleryThe Laumeister Fine Art Competition“The Triumph of Winter” Invitational Exhibition at the National Arts ClubAward of Excellence – Oil Painters of America Eastern Regional ExhibitionBold Brush Award – FASO Bold Brush Art Contest2nd Prize – FASO Bold Brush Art ContestFinalist – Art Renewal Center (ARC)Purchase Award – American Impressionist Society
